Ten (10) students from Botswana International University of Science and Technology currently on industrial attachment at Morupule B Power Station (MBPS) successfully completed a two-week Plant Process Appreciation Course held from 18– 29 May 2026. The programme was facilitated by Steag Energy Services, with Sitaramaiah Kistamsetty serving as the Lead Facilitator.

The course combined comprehensive classroom-based theoretical learning with practical plant site tours, providing participants with firsthand exposure to key systems and critical equipment. As part of MBPS’s Skills Development Initiatives portfolio, the programme is designed to deepen understanding of coal-fired power plant processes and operations.

By equipping employees and trainees with specialised knowledge that can only be gained within the unique environment of the Morupule Generating Plants, the course plays a vital role in strengthening internal technical capability and building a sustainable skills pipeline. To date, the programme has also been successfully delivered to Maintenance teams, enhancing their understanding of the plant processes associated with the equipment and systems they maintain and repair.

POWER HOUR – Power Supply Report

NOTE:

Reliability challenges persist on units that have not yet under gone remediation. As a result, forced outages and short-duration (“pit-stop”) maintenance interventions will continue to be undertaken based on plant condition.

Key performance metrics have, however, improved materially. Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) has been reduced from approximately 30-50 days to 12 days.

In addition, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) has increased, with units now remaining on the grid longer for an average of 120 days before a failure occurs.

Collectively, these improvements provide a sound basis for the positive energy availability outlook.
