CRIME PREVENTION AWARENESS CONSULTATIVE MEETING – MORAKA VILLAGE

The Security Department, in collaboration with the Customer Service and Marketing and Communications Department, recently participated in a high-level Crime Prevention Symposium held in Moraka Village. The meeting was convened under the theme,“Initiating Viable Partnerships for a Safe North East District,” bringing together key stakeholders committed to strengthening safety and security within the region.

The event was officiated by the Honourable Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Mr. Moeti Mohwasa, who underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against crime. He highlighted that sustainable crime prevention requires coordinated efforts between government, law enforcement agencies, parastatals, and local communities.

The primary objective of the meeting was to foster stronger partnerships and promote a shared sense of responsibility in addressing crime across the North East District. Discussions also focused on emerging crime trends, particularly those affecting public infrastructure and service delivery.

A key concern raised during the engagement was the increasing incidents of vandalism targeting BPC infrastructure, especially the theft of copper cables. This trend continues to have significant implications for the organization, including loss of revenue.

Representing BPC, the Security Coordinator for the North Region, Ms. Kegaisitse Tselayakhumo, engaged with community members on these challenges. She emphasized the broader impact of infrastructure-related crimes, noting that such acts not only affect BPC operations but also disrupt essential services to communities.

As part of its commitment to community engagement, BPC contributed to the success of the event through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by donating 10 cases (240 bottles) of bottled water. In addition, awareness was raised on the importance of reporting criminal activities.

In conclusion, the consultative meeting provided a valuable platform to reinforce partnerships between BPC, government stakeholders, and the community. It highlighted the critical need for a coordinated and proactive approach in safeguarding infrastructure and ensuring reliable and sustainable service delivery.
