The Department of Energy today (3 July 2026) held a certificate handover ceremony at the BPC Training Centre to recognise officers who successfully completed the Solar Inspections Training Programme. The certificates were presented by the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Energy, Mr. Thuso Matshameko, in the presence of senior representatives from the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA), Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), and Green Solar Academy.

The training was delivered under the Rooftop Solar Programme, funded by the European Union through the ASPIRE Programme, to strengthen national capacity in the growing solar energy sector. Of the 39 officers who completed the programme, more than 50% were BPC employees, underscoring the Corporation’s pivotal role in advancing renewable energy expertise.

The initiative marks an important step towards developing a skilled, accredited workforce that will support the growth of Botswana’s solar energy sector.
