BPC Warns The public Of Tender Scams

Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) wishes to warn members of the public about tender scams whereby fraudulent orders and invitations to tender for contracts are issued to potential suppliers on behalf of BPC by fraudsters who pretend to be from BPC’s Supply Chain Department.

The scammers target unsuspecting suppliers claiming that BPC is inviting bids for possible supply of certain goods. The targeted suppliers would then amongst other things receive a fake Request for Quotation (RFQ), either by email or fax with BPC logo and colours.

BPC’s preliminary investigations have revealed that once the potential supplier tenders for the contract they are then contacted by people who would claim to be BPC’s officials. The suppliers would be told that their companies have won the tender to supply goods. Furthermore, the fraudsters will encourage the suppliers to use certain manufactures as they are supposedly the only manufactures to supply the goods needed. BPC wishes to warn the public about this scam.

Our valued suppliers are warned to be vigilant and not to transfer any payments to any manufacturer without confirming the authenticity of the orders.

The public is further advised that all BPC tenders are published in the Corporation’s website; www.bpc.bw/procurement/tender-listings and in the Botswana Dailynews. To confirm authenticity of any BPC tender, suppliers are encouraged to contact our Supply Chain Department at; 3603239/446.
