The BPC Otse Kanye Cycle Challenge successfully went down yesterday 12th November 2017, with 161 cyclists taking part. The Cycle Challenge attracted cyclists from across the boarders as this signifies growth in the cycling arena. This is an annual event organized by Tsela Riders Cycling Club that started about 4 years ago before Botswana Power Corporation took part from last year, 2016. The 60 KM and 120 KM ride is from Mogobane via Otse Police College to Kanye and back. Both categories had youth, female while the 120 kilometer race have veterans, master to name but a few.
As one of the Corporate Social Responsibilities, the Corporation has entered in to a three year sponsorship partnership with Tsela Riders hence its even called BPC Otse Kanye Cycle Challenge. In a bid to have involvement of the villagers of the nearby villages, the race was moved to Mogabane by the dam side.
This year’s race saw addition of the neutral zone which was going into the village to benefit villagers who could not go to watch the race from the start and finish point.
When giving his Remarks the CEO of BPC Dr. Stefan Schwarzfischer said he is happy that BPC is contributing in the development of sports and urged Tsela Riders Club to go into schools and groom students on cycling. He also appreciated the villagers for allowing the event to take place in their village. The president of Botswana Cycling Association Mr. Mmetla Masire also appreciated the involvement of Corporations like BPC in sponsoring cycling events.
